Almanac Beer Co. Dogpatch Sour

The Dogpatch is one of San Francisco’s iconic neighborhoods and where Almanac Beer Co. got its start, but for the first 16 oz. canned release of the beer, we decided to take the dog reference a bit more literally. The label was also our first attempt at producing a tessellation pattern - a tiling geometric pattern that repeats with no gaps or overlaps. That meant that with this pattern, certain shapes had to pull double duty like the dog’s collar also serving as his tail. It was tricky to get the hang of the new approach to tiling patterns, but we’re happy with where the design landed, and how the layout could also emulate the chevron shape that appears on most Almanac labels.
